Position Overview
We are looking for a self-motivated and results-driven Controller to direct and manage our organization’s business activities and to develop and implement effective business strategies and programs. Duties for the Controller will include allocating budget resources, formulating policies, coordinating business operations, monitoring and motivating staff, managing operational costs, ensuring good customer service, improving administration processes, engaging with vendors, hiring and training employees, identifying business opportunities, and monitoring financial activities.
The successful candidate for this role should possess excellent communication skills, superior knowledge of business functions, exceptional budgeting and finance skills, 5-10 years’ experience with a senior financial managerial position, and strong leadership qualities.
Controller Responsibilities:
- Managing the processes for financial forecasting and budgets and overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting.
- Preparation of monthly financial reporting package to include balance sheet, income statement, cost variance to budget report, cash flow forecast and breakeven analysis, over & under of a WIP schedule.
- Creating, managing, and overseeing budgets and financial forecasting to include preparing financial reports.
- Supporting accounting staff, ensure accuracy of the day-to-day operations of organization’s processes and procedures that enhance work efficiencies and improve the department’s potential to serve the organization.
- Responsible for oversight of AP, AR, and payroll functions.
- Advise management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Establishes and maintains systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data and enhance the Organization’s value.
- Prepare all applicable business and tax forms.
- Ensure all subcontractors and vendors meet all requirements of contract agreements prior to payment. (Computer system has tracking & staff collects for insurance Audits)
- Advise management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
- Prepare tax information required for corporate tax returns.
- Insurance & 401K oversite.
- Developing advanced reporting of operational data to allow for improved processes and systems.
- Review, analyze and develop job cost reports to determine accurate estimated total costs to complete; prepare work in progress reports.
- Serve as the key contact for the Company’s external auditors, bankers, and insurance brokers.
- Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to improve and maintain the financial health of the company.
Controller Requirements:
- Degree in Business Management or a master’s in business administration.
- Sage software experience or similar accounting software package.
- Experience within a construction company/HVAC would be ideal but not required.
- Proven experience overseeing multiple department’s processes and control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
